Real Stories of Strength
My life was decided for me through marriage and being sent abroad. I believed my husband would protect and understand me, but when he became violent, I realized I was living in fear. With the help of the South Asian Women Project, I received counseling and support that helped me find my strength again. It was not easy, but I learned that surviving abuse takes courage. Today, I am rebuilding my life and working toward my dreams. I am creating a safe and hopeful future for my son and myself, and I am choosing to live with dignity and self-respect.
I lived in an abusive marriage for years, staying silent because I was afraid of losing my immigration status and my ability to support myself. Finding the South Asian Women Project gave me safety, understanding, and a sense of family, and helped me find the strength to start rebuilding my life.
Chayer Adda is my favorite place, where I found friendship, learned new things, and discovered a special talent in myself. I realized that I can create beautiful artwork
I have no immediate family in the United States, and during one of the most difficult moments of my life, I felt completely alone. When my husband was arrested for domestic violence while I was seven months pregnant, I began falling into depression.
Being connected to the South Asian Women Project through ACS became a turning point. I found a safe space where I could be myself, feel understood, and finally breathe. The support and counseling I received gave me strength, comfort, and a sense of family when I needed it most

When I first connected with the South Asian Women Project, I had no money, no food, and had just left the hospital to live in a homeless shelter, while my children were placed in the foster system. The organization provided me with emergency food, clothing, and essential support. They guided me through the process of regaining access to my children, and eventually, my kids were returned to me. I will be forever grateful to SAWP and my counselor for giving me hope, support, and the chance to be with my family again
